The Governor’s Mansion Foundation is proud to announce a special summer tour event, “Stitching History,” a quilt show in honor of America 250. This exhibition features an array of quilts from private collections and local quilt guilds. The public can view the display inside the Washington State Governor’s Mansion during public tours on Wednesday, July 1st and Wednesday, July 8th.
The quilts celebrate America’s history, spirit, community, pride, and culture. The textiles range from 19th-century historical pieces to contemporary masterpieces honoring veterans. A featured highlight on display in the second-floor Evans Bedroom is a handmade Crazy Quilt. This quilt, with many U.S. bicentennial motifs, was presented to the Governor’s Mansion in 1976 by the women of the state of Washington. The Washington State Homemakers’ Council and St. Peter’s Hospital Auxiliary coordinated this project. The South Sound Stitchery Guild set the blocks together.
